Interpreters Skills

Does your college offer or employs some kind of skill techniques/cross training that improves the interpreting level of your pool of interpreters? If so, what are they and how do you implement them?

Hey Venetia - At the U of Minnesota we have 14 staff interpreters. As our unit manager, I observe, record, and debrief with every interpreter at least once a year - more as requested. Doesn't sound like much, but it's what time and other responsibilities allow. Each interpreter in our unit has as one of their goals for the year, something skill-specific. I get updates about their progress periodically and routinely check-in with people about how things are going.

Hope that helps? Happy to discuss more if you'd like.
